Laura Skaggs currently serves as President of the Niwot Historical Society and as Chairperson of the Niwot Local Improvement District Advisory Board to Boulder County. For twenty years, Laura worked at the National Trust for Historic Preservation in Washington, D.C. Her last position before returning to Boulder was as Director of Federal Agency Affairs, facilitating agencies’ compliance with the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966. Her earliest involvement with historic properties was while working for Larimer Square Associates in Denver, volunteering with Historic Denver and renovating an award-winning Italianate home in Denver’s Curtis Park Historic District in the late 1970’s. Laura received her undergraduate degree in English Literature from Clarke College (now Clarke University) in Dubuque, Iowa, and a Masters Degree in Educational Media (library science / audio-visual) from the University of Northern Colorado. She now also raises chickens, an organic garden and a Highland heifer at Only Sunshine Farm, where she lives with her husband outside Niwot.
