Kathy Spear enjoys an active and creative life on Mapleton Hill in Boulder. Kathy and her husband moved fulltime to Boulder in the summer of 2016 after having split their time between Winnetka, Illinois, and Colorado. Prior to her retirement in 2009, Kathy was Senior Vice President, Compliance & Integrity and Litigation at Kraft Foods Global, Inc. Prior to her 25 years at Kraft, Kathy was an associate at the law firm of Kirkland & Ellis in Chicago. She received her AB in Government, magna cum laude, from Smith College, an MA in Political Science from Brown University, and a JD, cum laude, from Northwestern University. Kathy serves as a member on the Northwestern University Law Board as well as the board of Erika’s Lighthouse, a Winnetka-based organization dedicated to raising awareness about adolescent depression and mental health for young people. She has also been a member of the Board of Directors of the Chicago Botanic Garden and Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
Kathy and her husband renovated their 1895 home on Mapleton Hill in 2005 and again in 2015. They have enjoyed researching its history, creating its gardens, and making it a family gathering place for their children and grandchildren. She is a founding member of the Mapleton Hill PorchFest committee and is a member of the Democratic Women of Boulder County and the League of Women Voters of Colorado. Kathy and her husband enjoy frequent travel in the US and around the world.
