Bring any grade to the Museum or we’ll come to you! Either way, the experience will be sensory, interactive, and thought-provoking ways for your students to engage with Social Studies curriculum. You can even borrow trunks of materials with ready-made curriculum to use however you wish.

VISIT / FOR TEACHERS AT THE MUSEUM

PRE K - 1ST GRADE

PRE-K AND 1ST GRADE

COST: $90/Class, Discounts Available
LENGTH: 60 Minutes for exhibit rotations. Add another 60 minutes for a program. Please also factor in snack or lunch time, if desired

GROUP SIZE: We prefer to accommodate 1 or 2 classes at once. One class can be split into two for more direct facilitation.

Bring your class for facilitated rotations in interactive, age-appropriate exhibits! For this age group, we recommend 15 mins. per exhibit in four exhibits. You can have snack and/or lunch on the rooftop terrace (if it’s nice) or indoors. If you would like to a more structured program in addition to that hour, choose between the following programs:

Voces Vivas will be up until February 26, 2023. A bilingual facilitator from the Latino History Project will work with your group to understand the legacy and contributions of Boulder County’s early Latino families. It is a unique experience not to be missed!

PLAYZEUM STEAM PROGRAM

The Playzeum is a wonderland where forests are made of rainbows and your footsteps make music! Our facilitators will work with your students to create structures and understand the inner workings of the robotics that make the space feel magical. We will also lead story time with a book about a visit to a museum.

HISTORY DETECTIVES
SIZE: Max. 35 Students

Become detectives into the past! Use authentic artifacts to discover what life was like in Boulder in the past for miners, Plains Indians, school kids, farmers and merchants. Museum educators lead activity.

2ND - 3RD GRADE

2ND – 3RD GRADE

COST: $90/Class, Discounts Available
LENGTH: 60-120 minutes for exhibit rotations, based on teacher preference. Add another 60 minutes for a 2nd grade program, or 90 minutes for a 3rd grade program. Please also factor in snack or lunch time, if desired.

CLASS SIZE: We prefer to accommodate 1 or 2 classes at once. If teachers are willing to take on classroom management without facilitation in some exhibits, we may be able to accommodate 3 classes at once, especially on Tuesdays, when we are otherwise closed.

HOURS: Schools are not restricted to the Museum’s normal operating hours. Please let us know your preferred arrival and departure times.

Tackle the same challenges people in Boulder’s past overcame to create the town we have today. How can you reuse items in your covered wagon to make pioneer toys? How can you put every part of the bison to use? What sort of tool could we create to identify habitable planets? A combination of experiments, activities and projects will give students a deep understanding of the topic they took on. Then create a comic strip following the story of someone from Boulder’s past who really faced that challenge.

How do you turn a beet into sugar and what impact did that have on Colorado’s economy? Using authentic tools of historic trades, students explore jobs of the past and the human, capital and natural resources required for that industry. Your class will leave this program with a deep understanding of the economic drivers that built our state after 1850, trying out the jobs for themselves, using authentic artifacts from these industries:

MOVING DAY

Who were the migrant peoples who sought to make lives for themselves in Colorado? Which resources drew them here and what factors determined their destinies? Using the tools of an historian and authentic artifacts and photographs, students will uncover the stories of the movement of people across Colorado from pre-history to 1870. Your students can walk through the Colorado Frontier on a massive floor-map, discover the ways resources were used by various industries through inquiry-based object exploration and analysis, and put it all into context in an interactive timeline. Your students will become experts on the migration, trade and interactions of:
