Swing by for our Free Day presented by Bobo’s Oat Bars on November 3. Catch one of the three performances of a 10-minute scene between 1-2:30pm.
‘Dude, It’s Boulder!’ is an original theater piece written by Boulder native, Jane Shepard. It is a history of Boulder told through story, dance, and song. Through extensive research, Jane Shepard has identified the origin of many of the themes that have defined Boulder, such as its being considered a health mecca or being known for its hippie/Granolaville attitudes and how these themes persist to this day. The script portrays conflicts of the past such as those between settlers and Native Americans, scientists and ranchers, and the tension between the University and the town. The show includes some of the more unsavory characters and incidents in Boulder’s past that most residents do not realize existed, such as the madams in Downtown Boulder or the KKK march down Pearl St.
The script is filled with large and small tales that tell of Boulder’s treasured folklore such as Shep the Dog and the Toll Road, Bugtown Em and the early street people, pioneer prospectors looking for gold, women marching for Prohibition, and Coot Lake and the hippies.
