Celebrating Juneteenth 2022
Join us in celebrating Juneteenth with the NAACP Boulder County Branch and Executive Committee, African American Cultural Events, BoCo.
Did you know? Official news of the Emancipation Proclamation did not reach Texas until Union Army general Gordon Granger announced freedom for enslaved people in Texas on June 19, 1865, two and a half years later.
Historical Fact: The “Grandmother of Juneteenth,” Miss Opal Lee, was invited to the White House when President Joe Biden signed into law recognizing Juneteenth as a federal holiday. Hear her story from her perspective in Boulder County’s inaugural Juneteeth Celebration last year.
