Blind Contour-Line Drawing: Seeing Without Looking
January 18 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
Join us for a hands-on learning experience with local artist Sara Rockinger.
In this beginning class, you will discover the subtle beauty of an object without the distraction of the discriminating mind by practicing an exercise called “blind contour line drawing.” This exercise is a process by which the artist draws the contour or outline of an object, never looking at their paper, and never lifting the drawing implement, erasing or ‘correcting.’ You may be surprised what can be translated from eyes to hand to paper without engaging the inner-critic, at least not until later.
You will have time to practice with a variety of materials, including graphite, pens, markers, and colored pencils. Students will choose at least one drawing to work on completing, and will go home with materials to start new drawings on their own.
The best part of blind contour line drawing is that each drawing is relatively quick and uniquely beautiful.
